Judy Lainhart

Judy Lainhart said the beauty of aging is you finally do accumulate some wisdom. When her husband of 22 years divorced her, Judy was forced to sell her home and move into an assisted living retirement community. We talked to her in a room filled with memories – a photograph of a costume she designed years ago for the dancer Bella Lewitsky, family photos, artwork from her travels around the world. We saw her roaming the halls with her walker – smiling and greeting people as she went. Despite the losses she had suffered, Judy wanted to start volunteering, so she could get back to being the person she knew herself to be. She ran a women's group at the home and did some tutoring of a student in the community. As her health failed, she moved into a nursing home and died while living there.
