Shirley Windward
Shirley Windward lead the active life she wanted. She was a free-spirited woman. Her whimsical nature showed up in all her activities – whether creating her “nebbishes” in her ceramics class, reading her humorous and thoughtful poetry, or moving with grace and ease in her dance class. She and husband Erv shared music and laughter together. Her creative, caring and independent spirit helped form the philosophy of the school she co-founded, The Windward School. Despite having a stroke and being in a coma in 1990, she continued to stay active and involved in her life. Recent health challenges necessitated her move into an assistant living facility. This didn't stop Shirley. Her latest book of poems was published while living there. However, her health finally gave out and she died a couple of weeks after another major stroke at age 93. |
